Treat your tastebuds to a trip to Morocco without leaving Melbourne! Check out Moroccan Soup Bar on Urbanspoon and you'll get some mixed reviews. The happy customers say that the food is amazing, the service is excellent, the venue is intimate and authentic, and the value for money is ridiculously good. Then there are the not-so-happy customers, who lament that the service is abrupt and the wait times will really test your patience. But even the haters don't dare dispute that the food is good.
Veg Travel Guide definitely falls into the happy customer category. We were a group of 6 on a Saturday night and had the most amazing, mind-blowing dining experience. Our group went with the $25 'special' banquet (you can also get a standard banquet for $20). Our group consisted of vegetarians, a vegan, and one of us had a nut allergy. Having a mixed group with different dietary requirements was no problem at all - the staff explained each of the dishes and if any of them contained nuts or animal products, a special vegan or nut free dish was served for us in its place!
Here are a few things you should know before you embark upon your dining experience at Moroccan Soup Bar:
[dropcapsquare bg="#333333" color="#ffffff"]1[/dropcapsquare] Moroccan Soup Bar offers all vegetarian and vegan banquets.
[dropcapsquare bg="#333333" color="#ffffff"]2[/dropcapsquare] If possible, get a posse together. Bookings are only taken for groups of 6 or more. And it really helps to have a booking! Otherwise take a good book, grab a drink from nearby, and settle in for a decent wait time.
[dropcapsquare bg="#333333" color="#ffffff"]3[/dropcapsquare] Don't expect to see a menu. The food changes each day. Just go with it.
[dropcapsquare bg="#333333" color="#ffffff"]4[/dropcapsquare] Just when you have finished off all the dishes and are thinking to yourself: "That was delicious, I am now completely satisfied, and don't feel overly stuffed", stop that thought! You are not finished. You have only just experienced the first course. The main course hasn't even arrived yet. Not to mention dessert. Sit back. Brace yourself.
[dropcapsquare bg="#333333" color="#ffffff"]5[/dropcapsquare] Take containers. Moroccan Soup Bar does not take the word 'banquet' lightly. They mean business. If you and your table can actually get through the whole banquet, hats off to you. However, it's more than likely that you're going to have A LOT of food left over. Really, really, delicious food, that no person in their right mind would want to go to waste. Moroccan Soup Bar does not stock any containers, so please take your own to avoid feeling silly. They are totally cool with it.
There's not much more to say - we'll let these food pictures speak for themselves. Enjoy!
