Sydney is one of the world's most beautiful cities any day of the week, but on New Year's Eve it absolutely sparkles. I've been lucky enough to call Sydney home for seven years now, but have always missed out on NYE in Sydney due to travelling over the Christmas/New Year period. We decided that New Year's Eve 2014 would be the year to stay put in our beloved Sydney and see what all the fuss was about.
As it was our first time celebrating NYE in Sydney, we decided to do it in spectacular fashion. We looked into a range of different options, including harbour boat cruises, restaurants, lots of venues with special new years eve packages, and even booking a room with a view. What we found consistent with most options was that they were expensive and not vegan friendly (and are unwilling to make any menu adjustments). Then I stumbled upon the FAQs for Luna Park's Harbour Party, including a question about vegan/vegetarian options, to which it stated that they endeavour to cater for all requirements. For those unfamiliar with Sydney, Luna Park is pretty much the place to be on new year's eve, perfectly positioned right on the harbour looking out to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House.
Before committing to buying tickets at one of the VIP venues which included food and drinks, I contacted the organisers to check that there would be vegan options available for us. They replied very promptly confirming that there would be, and we would just need to identify ourselves to staff on the night. As the event got closer, I thought I'd check in with them again, just to avoid any potential disappoint on the night.
The response I got blew me away. A 13 course vegan canapés menu had been prepared! Not just a few items, but 13! Special thanks go out to Executive Chef Mark Taylor for creating such a delectable menu. The food was beyond anything we could have expected and we were the envy of our fellow party-goers.
