First published on Weekend Notes 15 February 2015. There’s a new food van bringing the unique flavours of the Middle East to the people of Perth. It’s called the Hummus Club, and this is one club you definitely want to be a part of.
The Hummus Club first hit the streets of late 2014. In just a short time they established a strong presence in Perth, appearing at twilight markets, festivals, and hawker markets all around town. If you’d like to keep up to date with the Hummus Club’s locations, you can get all the details from their Facebook page.
The Hummus Club serves traditional Arabic street food with a modern twist. Customers can choose from a mix pate, felafel sandwich, falafel box, hummus and pita, and some pomegranate lemonade to wash it down. I ordered the Hummus Club Mix which comes with falafel, hummus, fattoush salad, and a serve of pita. The Mix plate is filling and satisfying, all for the very reasonable price of $13. The menu is simple but delicious, with an authentic Arabic flair to it. The food is prepared and cooked fresh and the hummus is of course home-made.
If there’s one thing better than feasting on home-made hummus and felafel, it’s doing it outdoors with friends and family whilst enjoying the ambiance of a community night market. Our Hummus Club experience was at the Maylands Hawker Markets, complete with a perfect sunset and great entertainment.
